Some Health Benefits of Seaweed

As research pushes on, science and medicine are finding out more and more that seaweed has amazing health benefits. A host of new plant varieties now being called sea vegetables are finally starting to be consumed in Western diets. And even though it seems like a relatively new thing here, some cultures have been eating seaweed for almost 3000 years. Among the sea vegetables are hijiki, rame, kombu, wakame, laver, dulse, and nori. In the same way that regular vegetables provide essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals to the body, seaweed provides its own set of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals, some of which are hand to find in land based vegetables.
But before we get into the specific health benefits of seaweed and sea vegetables, I want to talk about seaweed from a different perspective. A growing number of reports are suggesting the regular land vegetables are getting steadily worse in the amount and types of vitamins and minerals they provide. Each year, as vegetables grow in farms, corporate farms are only replenishing and fertilizing the soil to the bare minimum in order to grow vegetables again the next season. Many of the vitamins and minerals that were once present in the soil DO NOT get replenished, because it's cheaper just to do the bare minimum. That is why I think so highly of seaweed. The ocean is self replenishing. Man hasn't yet found a way to deplete the store of vitamins and minerals present in the ocean like he has in many places on land. So while vegetables grown on land in corporate farms are continuing to become steadily worse nutritionally, seaweed is being constantly replenished by the ocean, thereby retaining its benefits to the body.
There are a number of health benefits associated with seaweed and sea vegetables. These are just a few.
1. Longevity and Youthfulness. Those this is scientifically unsubstantiated, researches have seen a direct correlation between regular seaweed consumption and an extended period of youthfulness and vitality. This is partly because seaweed has been shown to have a positive effect on both the hair and the skin, giving its recipient a more youthful appearance. Seaweed strengthens the health of the hair and gives a glow about the skin.
2. Detoxifying Agent. Seaweed has demonstrated that it has a very powerful detoxing effect. This is for two reasons. First off, seaweed has the ability to bind itself to heavy metals that it contacts, allowing them to be expelled through natural processes. Secondly, due to the type of chlorophyll in algaes, it's both simple and powerful, more powerful than chlorophyll found in almost every other source. Chlorophyll is one of the strongest detoxers known to man, and eating food algae in any form provides a person with a very powerful dose!
3. Trace Minerals. There are certain vitamins and minerals that are just hard to get in foods. Seaweed is a powerful source of many of the trace vegetables that are generally only otherwise found in pill supplements. But the body can always utilize minerals in foods better than minerals in pills.
Some other benefits that seem to come from seaweed and sea vegetables are these:
Increased MetabolismIncreased Immune System FunctionIncreased Brain FunctionIncreased Hormone Regulation
People need to eat fresh vegetables, and I'm not talking about the vegetables you buy at the store. These vegetables have grown steadily worse at time has gone by. In our modern world of corporate farming, if you want to make sure you have enough vitamins and minerals in your daily diet, you really need to either grow a garden of your own, or else eat foods like seaweed. That's the only way to ensure that your body is getting everything it needs. Either that of you are really at the mercy of corporate farming who replenish their soil only to the barest minimums of fertilization in order to get the crops to grow again the year after.
Thanks for checking into seaweed and its health benefits.
